Reasons not to use TWiki

So you just finished reading Reasons to use Foswiki and now you want some ranting? Then you are in the right place.

Top reasons to skip TWiki and upgrade to Foswiki

  1. A single company called Twiki Inc. once took over control over the TWiki project 2008 after a decade of free software development and then claimed it as their own success. This company went out of business silently around 2012/2013.
  2. TWiki is protected by a trademark, owned by a single person, not the community.
  3. TWiki is ruled by a dictator while Foswiki is backed up by a democratically elected board of directors.
  4. In 2008 this single person disabled the passwords of every community member and then demanded to sign a newly created code of conduct to opt in again. This isn't really a sign of trustworthiness.
  5. After this incident all TWiki developers moved to Foswiki.
  6. Former TWiki plugins are all continuously maintained on Foswiki.
  7. Users commonly migrate to Foswiki instead of upgrading a TWiki installation.
  8. Major companies, e.g. Yahoo, Motorola, IBM, upgrade from TWiki to Foswiki.
  9. The best free TWiki support comes from.... the Foswiki community.
  10. Foswiki provides with a couple of extensions - not available on TWiki - that are critical in modern enterprise wikis such as a faceted full-text search engine, improved usability and design, blogging, first class pdf export, database integration, support for wiki farms, a framework for large scale wiki applications, hierarchical categorization and tagging, soap integration, cmis integration, office integration and a lot more.
