Release 1.0.x Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Foswiki and TWiki?
Foswiki 1.0.0 has incorporated fixes for all bugs resolved in TWiki 4.2.4 as well as additional fixes, and is based on the
Foswiki Stand Alone architecture, enabling greater flexibility in supporting different web server environments.
See the
Foswiki release notes for detailed information.
Will my TWiki Plugins and Contribs continue to work?
TWiki plugins and other extensions from TWiki 4.2.3 will work without changes in Foswiki with the
TWikiCompatibilityPlugin installed. Note that many extensions have been updated by their maintainers to the Foswiki product and are now available as Foswiki extensions.
How about my data in TWiki? Can I shift between the two systems?
Upgrade support from TWiki 4.2.3 and 4.2.4 to Foswiki 1.0.0 is provided.
Our goal is to support
backwards compatibility with data generated for TWiki versions <= 4.2.3, but as we are getting a much higher update rate compared to TWiki,
forward compatibility with future TWiki releases may not be feasible. We will continue to offer support migration from later TWiki releases to the new platform for as long as is practical.
Will Foswiki contain all security and other bug fixes from TWiki releases?
Yes, all issues resolved by TWiki releases are tracked by the Foswiki team and appropriate fixes are made to the Foswiki product. Foswiki 1.0.9 is a much more secure platform than the current TWiki release.
