Since October 2008, Foswiki has established itself as a viable and thriving open-source project that brings the power of a structured wiki to the enterprise. Foswiki is a feature-rich application platform based on structured wiki technology. With Foswiki you don't have to be a programmer to collect, store, and re-use enterprise information: everyday users have the ability to easily create web 2.0 applications such as mashups, social interaction tools, flexible utilities to query data, and auto-generated reports (including dashboard applications that summarize information). Enhancements introduced in 2009 include superior support for scalability (FastCGI, mod_perl, standalone http server, load balancing), best-in-class protection against web vulnerabilities, and improvements to the WYSIWYG page editor. For more information, please see the Release 1.0.x release notes.

This week the Foswiki community gathered in Hannover, Germany for the first Foswiki community summit and general association assembly. A total of 34 association members were chosen, 19 of which were present in Hannover, who then elected the initial Foswiki board of directors. The Foswiki association strengthens the independence of the project from any single commercial entity and firmly establishes the democratic governing model of the community driving its innovation.

In the upcoming 1.1 release, the Foswiki development team plans to continue to enhance Foswiki's abilities to manage structured data, as well as introduce advances in internationalization and multilingual features. As one of the premier active open-source community projects using Perl on the internet, Foswiki is attracting top quality talent to help make this a reality.

An increasing number of enterprises around the globe are realizing the power and potential that Foswiki offers. Companies deploying Foswiki include organizations of all sizes, from large multi-nationals to small and medium sized businesses. The friendly, effective, and perhaps most importantly, free, community support model has helped many make the step to Foswiki as easy as possible.

Comments

I added two sentences: "As one of the premier active open-source community projects using Perl on the internet, Foswiki is attracting top quality talent to help make this a reality." and "The friendly, effective, and perhaps most importantly, free, community support model has helped many make the step to Foswiki as easy as possible.". Since neither of these is particularly easy to back up, you may not want to include them.
