Lena, end user (advanced)

Context

Lena is project manager at 'collaborative' publishing company Gesamt Verlag, who publish a bi-monthly magazine. The team responsible for a publication consists of copywriters, journalists, photographers, editors, project managers, proofreaders and magazine designers.

The goal is to give maximum autonomy to the journalists responsible for the texts, and at the same time give overview and status information to project managers coordinating photographers, client approval and updates.

For each publication a theme is thought up by the chief editors and journalists. Lena is responsible for addressing the copywriters and photographers, to set up the publication space, and to manage a number of articles within time and budget. The deadlines are hard, so daily monitoring of progress is vital, all the way to final draft. At that point, Lena then picks up the text for proofreading and client approval.

A wiki is used to manage and monitor the entire publishing project.

Capacity

Very experienced with various kinds of software (mainly Microsoft). Able to work on many things simultaneously. Able to deal with money and have a keen eye on quality at the same time.

Mentality

Problem solver. Perfectionist. Values time over all things. Does not tolerate slacking copywriters, nor clumsy software, be it commercial or open source.

Fynn, end user (beginner)

Context

Fynn is art director at an advertising agency. It is not so much about doing the design himself as it is about transforming the client needs into communicative ideas. So Fynn works closely with copywriters and visual designers to pitch ideas internally to the agency's creative director and account team. And if an idea is chosen, to supervise the realisation of the artwork (print, shoots) and to make sure that budgets and deadlines are met (with help of a project manager).

A wiki is used to collect work (showcases) and to manage and monitor projects from idea to realisation.

Capacity

Very experienced with creation software (Adobe Suite) and sometimes PowerPoint. Not so much with CMS software.

Mentality

Visually oriented, expects things (and software) to communicate clearly.
