Editing from a smart phone - best practice?

Hi,

Editing Foswiki pages from a mobile phone browser (Android 4) seems awkward. Edit frames inside a webpage that doesn't recognize the screen size, etc.

Are there suggestions how to best do this? Optimal editor settings, skin setting, or maybe even an app?

At the moment I edit text files locally or in Google docs and merge with the wiki later. Just because editing is less of a chore, I put up with the hassle of merging..

Thanks for all hints!

Are you trying to use Wysiwyg editing - the TinyMCE editor? It does seem to have it's challenges on the mobile platforms. There are a number of general TMCE threads discussing handheld issues, so that might not be something we can easily fix. Foswiki currently ships TMCE 3.4.9, and version 3.5.8 is current. It looks like there is a major rewrite happening for TMCE 4.x, so hopefully they are working on improving the mobile platforms.

The wiki text editor seems to work a bit better for me. Lately I've been using the Dolphin browser on Android 4.1.1, as it seems to have less issues with sites using javascript than Firefox. Though editing from the phone is something I do as a last resort.

If you have any ideas on what works better for you, or if you can identify any particular css or javascript changes in Foswiki that would improve the situation, please let us know.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

I use the text editor.

The main issue is that the editing happens in a frame, and the scrolling in that is quite clumsy, especially as it's often wider than the screen..

I'll try Dolphin, or also other browsers as you suggested.
