It seems your mail program is not working properly. Did you configure it? Are you using some sendmail script or relying on Net::SMTP? The latter seems to me to have more chances to work on Windows, but it needs some "smarthost" to relay it to.

I am just getting started with FosWiki and I am having a similar problem. I register a user, I also get the same error about sending mail, I admittedly have not configured the mail part but I figured I could just ignore it because I'm not worried about the SMTP part yet, I was going to tackle that later. But I also cannot seem to get the user logged in after registration (using Apache login). A user page does get created. In addition, I do see that .htpasswd was modified at the time of registration, but when I go to edit it, there is only one line and it's for the user I created for initial configuration.

configuring mail settings isn't a requirement for registration is it? I do eventually want to set up a SMTP server to send email notifications to, but I was hoping I could ignore it and tackle it later after I understood authentication better. What about for situations where email notifications aren't wanted? Like a test server?

I didn't think the problem I was having had anything to do with mail settings until I saw this page. Thanks in advance

EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw http://foswiki.org/Support/Question207
