%METACOMMENTS% written in a topic works as expected, but %METACOMMENTS% (or %METACOMMENTS{topic="%BASETOPIC%"}%) does not show anything.

Strange, I exclusively use it in a view template, which just works fine. Any idea how to reproduce?

Hmm, again a documentation thingy. I tried to write %METACOMMENTS% to get the "Add comment" dialogue. That doesn't work - I must use %TMPL:P{"metacomments"}% in the template.
