Item12985: Incorrect warning about the "root directory" being nonwriteable: It's not the "root directory"
Priority: Low
Current State: No Action Required
Released In: n/a
Target Release: n/a
Applies To: Engine
Component: Configure
Branches:
A freshly installed Foswiki warns in
configure
:
/var/www/html/virtual_host_root_directory - Warning: Could not write to the Foswiki root directory. This is not necessarily a big problem, but can cause issues installing some extensions that write files into the server root.
This is confusing.
In my case,
/var/www/html/virtual_host_root_directory
is NOT the Foswiki root directory, it is the root directory of virtual host.
The Foswiki root directory (underneath which are
bin
etc) is actually
/home/wikis/my_foswiki
and it corresponds to the URI
httpd://thevirtualserver.org/wikis/mine
The warning message should probably cater to such unusual settings.

Could you provide more details on your installation file system structure, Also, what are the *Dir settings in your configuration. Please run
grep Dir}\ = LocalSite.cfg
, We can try to resolve this for Foswiki 1.2. Configure has had major changes, so I have no idea if you'll still get this error. Also this might give us some insight on how to bootstrap your system. (Foswiki 1.2 will run without a
LocalSite.cfg on conventional installations). Thanks.

Hi George, Sorry for the late reply. I am installing the Foswiki 2.0.1 now. Do you still want data from the old installation?

No problem. If the issue is resolved in 2.0, then we can close this as no action, otherwise, any new insight on issues with 2.0 would be helpful.
