It would be nice to have a bot on #foswiki.

Flooterbuck is my favorite, as it's highly customizable, and easy to teach it something, and very very useful (try #perl on MagNet for a demo, purl is this kind of bot).

Also, we need to host this. Not sure the foswiki.org server is the best place...

Might also use it to log the channel. Better 2 loggers than one, in case one gets disconnected.

Here is what the old bot had, according to QBFreak
  • handle inter-wiki links, so you could type Foswiki:Community/InternetRelayChat in conversation, and it would spit out the URL, so you could refer people to topics easilly without the URL
  • find you the most recent line in Colas' log when you asked for it, which was handy for walking into a conversation
  • monitor a specially formatted wiki topic and update you when it changed (just an RSS reader with a little code added)
  • monitor the SVN commits by querying the repository
  • some handy stuff that it came with like spell checking and an infobot module so you could teach it basic answers to questions
  • and some silly stuff like insults

Sources for these scripts can be found in Subversion:WikiBot

up and running.

still need TODO: run bot as a service or from a cronjob to make sure it always stays up.

I don't know how flooterbuck works, but with mozbot it dumps a lot of useful output to the console. I usually run it through screen so it continues to run on when the console disconnects but you can also connect and see the output at any time.
