Since META:PREFERENCE is for holding variables, it would be great if you could feed them from a form submit. You can do this in the normal topic text to a Set line. META:FIELD can be filled by form submit, so it seems a reasonable idea that PREFERENCE should behave the same way.

Agreed, it should be consistent. However this is an Enhancement, so regrading and setting to Actioning as the analysis is clear from the report.
