Item8973: Action Tracker leases full page for item edit
Priority: Normal
Current State: No Action Required
Released In: n/a
Target Release: n/a
When an item is being edited,
ActionTracker plugin opens a new page with a form to do the editing for that item. The appearance is of editing a single item.
However, a lease is set for the entire TWIki topic containing that item and others. Thus, if someone else edits a different item, they are told the page is in use.
Obviously, they can take the chance that TWiki will do a correct merge. But this gives many users pause. They don;t want to break the data.
Given that will likely be many items on a single page, and editing of different items should not cause conflict, is it possible for
ActionTracker to do some validation itself, perhaps opening items in another page, or marking items as "open for edit", so as to give users a better idea of whether they can safely "edit anyway"?

This is not really an ATP issues. It's a core issue, because leases are granted in the core, and the granularity of a lease is a topic. I'm not going to try and second-guess that in the plugin (though i hear what you say, and maybe a future ATP will do it)
