Images not displayed from markdwon files

Hello,

I am trying to use an existing md. file that was originally created for gitlab. The file (including image that it contains) is saved locally on the foswiki server and I am using the markdown plugin to display the md. file in a topic. The Problem is that the text is correctly displayed but the image seems not be found.I tried different variations for defining the image in the md. file, namly as html code (<img src=...>) or as markdeon (![text](PATH_TO_IMAGE)) as well as putting in image in different location (in the same directory as the md. file or in a directory for images).. You can tell how hopeless I was

To do this, I am using: %MARKDOWN{url="file:///PATH_TO_MARKDOWN_FILE"}%.
Notice that, when I attach the image to the topic and display it using IMAGE{"PATH_TO_IMAGE" }, then it would be displayed. But of course not at the desired location like in the md. file..

If anyone has an idea about this issue, please let me know!
